EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Certificate and Masters' Degree: Prosthodontics

THE DEPARTMENT OF PROSTHODONTICS

The Department of Prosthodontics is responsible for the didactic and clinical instruction of predoctoral and postdoctoral students in all aspects of prosthetic dentistry and the Department comprises of five divisions: Fixed Prosthodontic Division, Removable Prosthodontics Division, Complete Prosthodontics Division, Implant Prosthodontics Division, and Graduate Prosthodontics Division.

POSTDOCTORAL PROSTHODONTICS PROGRAM

Advanced education in prosthodontics consists of a comprehensive program three years in duration. Progressive clinical, laboratory, and didactic experience in fixed, removable, maxillofacial and implant prosthodontics, as well as interrelations with other medical and dental specialties, are emphasized. Biomedical sciences relevant to the practice of prosthodontics are integrated into a curriculum which correlates biological, behavioral, and clinical disciplines. The biomedical sciences are incorporated into a comprehensive postdoctoral clinical experience, culminating in the award of a certificate in prosthodontics and the opportunity to receive a master of science degree in biomedical sciences.

The postdoctoral prosthodontics program actively recruits applicants who will strive for both clinical and academic excellence and who seek a balanced program covering patient service, education and research. Applicants are sought that are team players, enthusiastic contributors to an atmosphere of clinical and intellectual exchange, and are driven by the desire to excel.

The postdoctoral prosthodontics program at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Dental School is fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. The curriculum is designed to meet the formal education and clinical criteria required for participation in the certification examination of the American Board of Prosthodontics.

CURRICULUM

The foundation of the clinical and didactic education is a strong and diverse curriculum. The faculty have been educated at various institutions throughout the country and bring this diversity and experience to the curricular development in postdoctoral educational experience. The prosthodontic postdoctoral student may successfully complete a three year certificate program only or combine the certificate program with a three year master of science program. The basic curriculum for both programs is as follows:
